Hi.Ā  Has anyone else encountered the error:Ā  “[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0][SQL Server] Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string”.

We are receiving it primarily when trying to process recurring journal entries but also recently in Purchasing.Ā  Microsoft provided a work around for the Purchasing batch but we want to solve the issue.Ā  Any ideas why this is happening and how to solve it?Ā  Microsoft believes “it is trying to convert a character to a date, which can mean an issue with data in a SQL table”.Ā  Are there characters we should not be using in GP data?

      Any insight would be appreciated.

      Thanks, Tracy

A few questions, if you know the answers…

      1. What version of GP do you use?
      2. Do you use external feeds to load data to GP?
      3. If you hand enter sample data using the GP Client only, do you get the same errors?

You may need to have your SQL/GP Admin/GP Partner take a look at the raw data in the GP SQL tables & fields.

Hi David.Ā  We are on version 18.4.1384.Ā  We use both external feeds and data entry and are experiencing the error with both types of transactions.Ā  We are experiencing the errors with journal entries that we hand enter but only those that are recurring entries.Ā  On the purchasing side, we do use external feeds.Ā  That error has only occurred once so far.Ā  All other errors occurred with recurring journal entries.Ā  I am wondering if there is a certain character that might be causing the error.Ā  Thanks.

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā …I am wondering if there is a certain character that might be causing the error.Ā  Thanks.
Possibly, but hand-entered GP “Date” fields do not allow anything values typed in other than numeric values. Not even a “/”.
Try it. The GP Client is actually pretty clever with date entry.Ā

Ā  Ā  Ā  …Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string

So, a Character String being converted to Numeric?Ā  External data fed into a Date field? Possibly? Custom code? Maybe?

      An additional question,
Do you have any 3rd party add-ons or customizations active in GP?

If you can duplicate the error, a SQL or GPPT trace would likely pinpoint the problem.Ā
      Good luck!
