We have been using the Payroll side of GP for payroll and benefits and want to begin using the HR module for benefits and payrollĀ sinceĀ we upgraded to 2016R2. Any suggestions on where to begin to set up the HR side?
Thank you! Angie

There are a lot of webinars to learn from.Ā Have you considered hiring someone to help you?Ā Jeanette Coty is one of the best – I recommend her services.Ā This is what she specializes in.
?The biggest part is to get the integration between PR deds/bens with HR.
What you’ll do is run the Reconcile utility in HR and choose the options for Benefit Setup and Enrollment. This process will have you create HR benefits and categorize them. It will also create enrollments for the employees.
You will need to check the benefit enrollment information but, especially, the retirement items.
I have frequently used SQL queries to update the HR side from PR rather than doing each one manually.
There are SmartLists for HR to show benefit enrollment information.
There is also a Setup Checklist you can use for Adding HR.

Hi Angie,
Charles has given you some great advice. As he stated, getting the Benefits area going and integrated properly with Payroll, is one of the biggest pieces of implementing HR.Ā Although it is not necessary to utilize, there are many pros to using HR for Benefits management. It allows you to do your own ACA reporting, categorize your benefits and track more detailed information.
Using the HR Reconcile utility to move Payroll Benefit and Deduction info to HR, will work, but, there are several factors to consider before you start. You will want to figure out your coding for all of your insurance plans first. If you end up with many more codes than are set up in Payroll, you may want to set them all up in HR instead of, or, in addition to using the Reconcile tool.Ā
As far as implementing the rest of HR, Charles’ idea of using the Setup Checklist is a great one.Ā
As Kim said, using a GP Consultant who really knows the HR module, is a good idea, too! (Thanks Kim!)
