This is our second year using Greenshades to generate our 1099’s.  Our security in GP has not changed, we are on GP 2015 (same as last year)but this year when the users run the totals in the Tax Filing Center, they are getting $0 results.  When we run it as ‘sa’, we are getting correct dollar amounts.  It also works fine for the POWERUSER.  I can not figure out what security setting is missing, but clearly it must be a permissions issue.  I have been in contact with Greenshades, but they are stumped too (they are trying to reproduce the issue on their end, but they told me to contact my partner because it’s a GP issue).  Has anyone seen this before?  We can launch the Tax Filing Center, and select “Create Year End Forms”, and we get to the point where it shows you the total amount that it will report, but the totals are $0.

      Vicki,

Just to clarify, our team is still researching this and treating this as open issue. I will escalate this on our end so we can test further. However, I didn’t want you to think that we were closing this ticket out and just telling you to contact your partner.

If anyone has any suggestions on this forum, we’d love to hear them, but I did want to confirm with you that we are still working on this on our end.

      Thank you.

Have you run the unassigned security operations report to see if a security operation may be listed in there that is necessary for this task?

Admin > Reports > Security > Unassigned Security Operations

This report will show tasks that have not been assigned to a role.

At least a place to start…

We bumped into a similar issue with one of our clients using Greenshades. The company in question, was one of many, but had been created in the last quarter of 2016. It turned out the company had not been created correctly. The db owner was not set to DYNSA and the Grant.sql script had not been run. Here is a link to a KB article which covers the fix. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/860468

      Vicki:

We use the Tax Filing Center but we don’t process our 1099 with it. So, maybe this will help. We have had some instances when data isn’t correct. Most of the time I have found it is because tax updates are waiting to be uploaded. The notification window doesn’t always appear right away. Maybe Chris could give us some information on how to force the updates rather than waiting on the window to pop up. 😎

Once the updates are taken care of the data is fine. It’s almost like the program puts itself on hold until it has the most recent updates installed.

Each installation has to be updated separately. So, if the program is installed on the workstations they will be updated separate from the server.

      Thanks

      Joni,

That’s a great suggestion. Being on an outdated version can sometimes lead to odd behavior. Updating a client’s GS program files is typically an early step on our end for troubleshooting. If our Support team did not already update Vicki’s files, then I would think we would want to try that.

Unfortunately, there is no way to force the update window to appear — since it should pop up automatically. The easiest thing to do would be to have our Support team remote in and transfer the most recent files over. That’s my preferred method when a user’s install is not checking for updates automatically. In fact, sometimes the updater itself is outdated so this would be the only option short term.

I guess I would start with comparing a Dex.sql log file on both the sa / poweruser and the regular user and see if there is a permissions denied message on a table or a view.  You could do a sql trace as well and that will give you similar results.  Just have everyone else off the system when you are trying it (the trace) and restrict it to your desired users login.  This might give you the path on which you could find the error.

Just wanted to update this posting, to let everyone know that the issue is resolved.  We had to run the Grant.sql script against our company databases.  A big thank you to the team at Implementation Specialists for their response to this GPUG posting.  It was through their help that we were able to determine the cause and resolve the issue.  Just another great reason to be a part of this GPUG community!
