We are running GP 2016. When attempt to use a copy and paste function for 110 rows from excel to the GL. The paste function works with no error reports, however it creates an unbalanced batch for us. If we save the batch as unbalanced then open it again it then looks like it rebalances for us.
Does anyone have any suggestions on why this is happening. In our excel document both the debits and credits are in balance. We have checked our format of the data to ensure that the decimal places is at 2.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks

Hi Chris,
We have checked our format of the data to ensure that the decimal places is at 2.
Do you mean your input data in Excel has only 2 decimals or it “shows” 2 decimals.. this is a huge difference.. sometimes when you prepare your data, you can have more than 2 decimals pasted into Excel, but believe it is only 2 in length..
As most GP currency fields are limited to 3 digits (2 decimals + dot), you can end-up with pasting data that doesn’t round up properly between debit & credit.
I used to have this issue in the early days when using eConnect to import GL transactions to create a posting batch in GP from an Excel source.. the data was coming from a different accounting system that used to provide more than 4 digits behind the decimal point, and it was rounding and showing only 2 digits in GP, but un reallity the numbers were different in the grand total summary once imported into GP.. I wasn’t always paying attention to this, just checking quickly in Excel if both columns would end-up with a zero balance. In Excel, the result is displayed based on your formatting, not on the true data.. but in GP eConnect was claiming that the total debit & credit were not balancing out..
So I had to add calculation formulas to my input data in Excel to round every number to 2 decimals to make sure GP would only get really 2 decimals. Since then I never had any issues with my import.

Make sure when you are pasting to GP that your cursor is in the first account number field for the journal entry distribution lines. I have seen issues when users are not at that first entry point and they click the paste button while they are still in the date or reference fields where buggy stuff can happen.Sent from my iPhone

You don’t say *how* unbalanced the entry is, but I suspect that GP is simply not “reading” the last line of data entry & that if you tab off of the line it will be in balance.
Good Luck

Hi Chris,I periodically have the same problem in GP 2013, and I’ve found two (somewhat strange) ways to correct the problem.
1. Select USD as the currency type. (Do this even if USD is already selected.) The entry now balances.
2. First click “Default”. Then scroll to the last line in the JE, and delete the blank line. The entry now balances. Not sure if these still work in GP 2016, but these are quicker than saving to a batch, re-pasting, or typing the entire entry.
Good luck!
