      ?Hi,

We started a number of years to ago to setup the Fix Assets Module in GP 2015.

We imported a number of assets and created a oneĀ  book.

It was never used and the Fixed Asset Ledger remained a manual process.

Now we would like to delete all asset records and books Ā start fresh for FY2018 in GP.

Is there any considerations in deleting assets and a book?

      Any insights would be appreciated.

      Thanks,
      Jeff.

      Hi Jeff,

It’s pretty straight forward actually, although Delete is in Utilities for Fixed Assets, not on the cards like it would be for other modules. Deleting an asset clearly can have other financial considerations so it’s a Utilities function to limit who could use it in most organizations.

The Asset Delete Utility only accepts one asset at a time unfortunately, so depending on how many assets you have, that may not make sense or be feasible.

If you want to start setup over again entirely, cards + setup, Clear Data in Fixed Assets might be appropriate but please test first. šŸ™‚ If everything should be wiped and started again, you could insert all options under Clear Data in FA. Otherwise, you might need to pick and choose which sets of tables to clear but it may be wise to clear all and start completely fresh. Take screen shots of what setup you might want to continue using so you can easily re-enter the data. “Fixed Asset Master” and “Fixed Asset Index Master” should be the “cards” but I can’t guarantee that there isn’t data in the other listed file types. (I have never tested this).

Last option would be clearing via SQL scripts but the preferable way is via the user interface so all of the proper tables are cleared as needed.

      Jen

      Jeff,
Jen outlined the options well.Ā  Indeed in your situation it sounds like you could do clear data in fixed assets.Ā  The following KB outlines which tables you will need to insert based on what you want to clear:Ā Ā https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/850361/how-to-clear-data-for-the-fixed-asset-files-in-order-to-rerun-an-impor
