DEX.INI value reverting back to its original value.

I have a client where a setting in the DEX.INI file is being changed from SuppressChangeDateDialog=TRUE to SuppressChangeDateDialog=FALSE each night. Originally, there was no entry in the DEX.INI file but since adding the entry, it is being changed from TRUE to FALSE each night.
We have a temporary fix by opening the DEX.INI file in NotePad and leaving it open. This stops the value from being updated.
The client has the following third party modules installed : Auditor, SmartList Builder, WennSoft Products, WennSoft Equipment Management, Extender, SmartFill, BankPro, Dynamics Report Manager, Email Pro, PA MULTICOMPANY, GST Wizard, PA System Tools, SmartConnect, Support Debugging Tool, WS Alt Window & Report, Manager, SmartView, Collections Management
Has anyone seen this before and how was it fixed.

Rockton’s Dynamics Report Manager (DRM) may be your culprit.
On the System Settings window for DRME, there is checkbox for “Suppress Date Change Dialog at Midnight”, and when checked, there is radio button to imply whether the value should be TRUE or FALSE.
I found that when it is checked, it will continue to ‘reset’ that DEX.INI based on the radio button selection.
I am using DRME build 12.0.1004, so YMMV.
Support Debugging Tool also has the ability to set the entries in DEX.INI, but that needs to be a deliberate choice to set to FALSE, ( check the DEX.INI Configuration ) .
This is different from the DEX.INI Settings checkbox in SDT to amend the DEX.INI entry to suppress the Sample Company Date.

Andrew,
In addition to what Robert mentioned, you may also want to check if you have the PSTL installed on your GP server side (or any client).. that can lead to problems as well with the “Suppress Date Change Dialog at Midnight” option.. Check for following entry in your DYNAMICS.SET file :

Beat,
The Dex.ini setting and the PSTL setting work together. The Dex.ini switch keeps the dialog from presenting, but the date doesn’t change. The PSTL tool will change the date. So, if you don’t want the dialog to display, but you do want the user date to change, you’ll need to use both the .ini switch and the PSTL setting.
Kind regards,

Thank you Leslie for the precision.. I wasn’t aware about that 🙂
Now that you mentioned it, I checked back in Richard Whaley’s book about the PSTL, and low & behold, it stated that after enabling the feature in PSTL, you have to edit the DEX.ini too & add the line for the Date Change dialog suppres.
This is a great book and I recommend warmly for every GP Admin to buy a copy.PS: it is with great sadness that I just noticed the site is closing down.. After Richard passed away, the business declined and seems not sustainable anymore.. I wish they would continue to make the books available at least thru a partnership like Amazon or Barns&Noble, to get the electronic versions…
Let them know : http://www.accoladepublications.com/Accolade-Publications-Inc.htmlPS: after posting this reply, I went on to the Amazon site and found out that most of Richard’s book are already availble for purchase there.. though I found one that is very expensive for GP book (and probably a mistake 🙂 ):

Béat,It looks like very slim pickings on Amazon, as well. Many of Whaley’s books are marked either:
Usually ships in 1 to 2 months
Temporarily out of stock
Currently unavailableVery sad because these are good books. I refer to the “Information Flow and Posting” book frequently. I’ve actually contacted the seller about that amazing price.

You’re right Steve,
it’s really only a small subset of teir GP collection… and the most of the links that Amazon brings back are from used-books resellers and/or other distribution channels that sell them for a hefty ‘upcharge’ ..
I contacted Betsey too and was hoping they would at least continue to sell them in eBook format on Amazon or thru another retail online channel.——————————

Béat,I got a reply back from the seller of that incredibly-priced copy of “Information Flow and Posting”:
We list books for a local library and they basically just price match once a quarter. At the time they do reprice they would basically set their price $1 lower than the lowest price regardless of the other sellers condition. If there are no other sellers at the time they price the book and they do not know the market value they will place it high to make sure no one buys it and re-adjust once there are competing offers during the next quarterly pricing. So the seller is acting as a consignment shop for the library, it looks like. At the end of the quarter, I suppose, the library may adjust its asking price. Weird, though, that they couldn’t simply use the list price (on the back cover) to begin with instead of making sure no one buys it… and then when they do know the market price, marking their copy to $1 below the lowest price so that somebody buys it right away…. ? Beats my pair of jacks…

Modifying the setting in Rockton’s Dynamics Report Manager did the trick. Thanks to both Robert and Beat for your contribution.
