Hello We have inventory items that have been coded as “Service” , all items should be “Sales Inventory”.Ā We do not track inventory.Ā Only use of items is for PO entry. Ā Does anyone know if it would create a problem if , via SQL, we were to change all item types to be “Sales Inventory” ?
Thank you

What’s your reasoning behind needing to make the switch?Ā If you do not track inventory then you for sure don’t want to change the Item Types to ‘Sales Inventory’.Ā This will force you to track inventory when receiving PO quantities and also at the time you sell the inventory.

Hi Kristen Only reason is that the purchasing manager insists in consistency.Ā He does not like it when things don’t look the way he expects them to.

At what cost are you entering the items? You mentioned you do not track inventory, but as mentioned above, if all item become inventory Items, it will change your world. To be specific to your question, I have used SQL many times from Services to Sales Inventory without event. You will be well served to have that item not exist in an open transaction. Take it off the PO/Order line item, make your change, and then re-enter the item to the open invoices. I really would need to know more about why this strategy is the right way Purchasing should work.
Kind regards,
leslie
