  • Adding New User with access to SmartList Only

    Hello,

Happy day to all! I have been asked to create a new user, give this user access to SmartList only to view all companies. We are using GP2016 R2. Can someone please provide guidance? Please let me know if there’s any more information needed. Thank you!

Update: I have created the user with Class ID SLONLY and have granted access to all companies, however when I log in as said user and launch SmartList I get a message that says “you do not have security privileges to access this window. Not sure how to proceed. Thank you!

    Eddie,

GP security is based on granting users the access they need. They start with nothing. The basic model is explained in these three tiers:

    1 – create the user

2 – grant the user access to the company(ies)

3 – for each company, you grant the user the access to a variety of resources within GP

Sounds like you got through 1 and 2. Now the fun part starts. You’ll need to learn what resources are needed. You can either read the documentation or figure it out by going through the security windows (tools > setup > system > user security) then drill-down through the hierarchy of role setup > task setup. It requires a fair amount of experience with GP.

    Good luck!

    Chris

We built up a GP Security Task for SmartList access using GP Power Tools. Create a Role with these and the DEFAULT Task and assign it to a test user. If your users use the drill-back functionality of the lists, you will likely need additional access.

If you have GP Power Tools, it has a feature to start a Security Trace, click what you need them to access, then stop it and build a new GP Security Task.

adding on to what David said… that will give access to the Smartlist window… now you need to add each SmartList (yellow folder) that you want the user to have access to.

those are found as below in the Task window…
