I wanted to see what the best process is for entering new hires in GP prior to their first day of employment without theĀ employees being active.Ā We would like to be able to enter employees in they system so we can initiate their employee ID, set up their pay codes, benefits, deductions, etc. For example, if five new employees are hired to begin employment on 2/01/18 and are added to GP on 1/16/18 with pay codes, etc.,, we have to mark them as Inactive so they don’t appear in our payroll. However, marking them inactive means having to indicateĀ “Last Day Worked” which thenĀ goes into their employment history.
Is there another method of entering new employees prior to their hire date without having to indicate a last day worked in their employment history?
Thank you. Angie

Can’t you just set the hire date to the future date, and also the “effective date” of their pay codes can be that same future date that they are starting their employment?

?:
You could add them as usual and make the pay codes inactive until you are ready for them to be paid. I’m not sure if you would have to do the same for deductions and benefits. If the system might throw an error during the payroll process since there is no pay.
Thanks

?I just have to give kudos to your HR department for having things so organized.Ā Most of the timeĀ I have someone showing up literally at my door saying they have a new hire and they want to get them set up.Ā Sigh.

?No, there isn’t.
If these are salaried employees you don’t want to include in the payroll, I can understand the problem. If they are hourly employees, they should not have timesheets to be included.
I am a bit confused about why you’re having an issue adding an employee with a future hire date. You should be able to do that.
Unfortunately, as you know, pay codes do not have a start date.
