Where in GP can we set what the default description is when we add new GL accounts?  We would like the default to be segment 4 and segment 5 only.  Thanks, Tracy

Hi Tracy,
You can change the Segment Descriptions by going to Microsoft Dynamics GP–> Tools–>Setup–>Financial–>Segments

You can clear the descriptions of the other segments except for Segment 4 and Segment 5, however it will still put dashes before the 3 dashes before in the Account Description.

thanks Gerald.  Is there any downside to removing segment descriptions?  I can’t think of any off the top of my head but I have been inside my home for a few months now!  ?

it should be ok.  The only thing that I can think of is when you are doing a Management reporter based on the single segment.

We use the description for ?segment 3 only. Otherwise, the description can be pretty lengthy with the segment names that we use. 😎  Segment 3 is our main GL account. When we run a report in Management Reporter the transaction detail is still there with the full segment. So, we just set up trees and report headers to indicate which dept it is. Please let me know if you would like more details.
