Hello,I am first time poster! I am new to the AX arena as my team is only beginning its analysis on using this platform for our business. I am interested in turning on WHS, as I believe the work directives would work well with my warehousing model, as well as the usage of license plates. As and example, In our warehouse, our products are large and bulky so must be dropped to a staging area to be packed prior to shipping. The Work directives would help setting these steps up systemically. I would like to hear feedback from actual users who have turned on the WHS , specifically:
1) I understand how set up can be difficult, but how is the upkeep of the work directives, is it “more pain than its worth”?
2) I have heard that the system can slow down because the increase in data usage, what have users found?
3) Do the work directives make things TOO ridgid; is there still enough flexibility to handle abnormal order conditions?
4) In general, Overall what do you like about the WHS, what do you dislike, what would you do differently if you were to re-implementAny feedback, be it general or specific, would be greatly appreciated, look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Adrian – My name is Jen Johnson and I’ve implemented WHS at clients and can provide you some feedback.
1) I understand how set up can be difficult, but how is the upkeep of the work directives, is it “more pain than its worth”?
This depends on how much you want the system to drive transactions vs the user. For example, if you want Dynamics to realize a location is full, and look for empty locations to receive product, then that setup can be extensive…all locations and products need dimensions etc. If you want the user to just find an empty location and receive the product, the setup is much easier. While, yes, even the base configuration is extensive, there are many variables that can tame the beast.2) I have heard that the system can slow down because the increase in data usage, what have users found?
This has not been my direct experience, there are a few factors that may impact this such as the maintenance of history and how often things such as waves are running. Work with your implementation team to optimize these settings.3) Do the work directives make things TOO ridgid; is there still enough flexibility to handle abnormal order conditions?
They don’t have to be, on most work types I may apply settings that allow the users to override what the system is asking. This is all configuration based on the transaction and the user.4) In general, Overall what do you like about the WHS, what do you dislike, what would you do differently if you were to re-implement
I like that a 3rd party service is not required, it’s fully integrated with Dynamics, I may use any mobile device that is Windows 6.5 enabled, I may select the transaction sets to support via WMS. What I don’t like is there are a couple transaction types that we’ve had to support via customization that just were not available yet on the mobile, and some of the fields that I would be able to address directly in the user interface, I cannot address on the mobile device. Feel free to reach out with other questions. Thanks, Jen——————————
