HI All

I have following requirement for Account structure and dont want to set up account structure for each series separatly

1.Business unit : default (BS) or the value from drop down but now blank allowed
2.Cost centers N/A for Balance sheet but mandatory for P&L
3,Location N/A for some accounts in operating expenses

Also what does this “” imply 

Did any one have any documentation to share regarding various choices to set up Account structure

The straight forward way to do that (and best practice, IMO) is to have 3 structures:
1. for B/S accounts: business unit
2. for most P&L accounts: business unit and cost centre
3. rest of expense accounts: business unit, cost centre, and location.

Alternatively, instead of (3) you can create advanced account structures to add location to just some fields (there are all kind of considerations whether to go in that direction, such as if you use budgeting – advanced structures not compatible with budgets).

What is the reason you do not want more than one account structure?

Here is the issue
Current asset : Project (default -000 and drop down)
Fixed assets: Dept, project, site (site 000 and drop down
Liabilities : projects,
Deferrend liabiliies : product line, dep, project

its pretty complicated with account ranges like :0000-1999, 2000-3999, 4000,5999

Also what does that means  in dimension  dept “”

Hello Nazim,

With the information you provided you would have to setup Advanced rules for the structures to use only one.  I would recommend that you use two at least, one for Balance Sheet and the second for the P&L accounts.

To answer your questions about the “”, this states you are allowing blanks and should be a green check mark on the structure segment).

My organization had some detailed requirements for its gross margin accounts/cost centers, so we set up advanced rules, which served our purposes for journal entries.  When you enter one, the system applies the logic of the advanced rules and when you click the drop down arrows, it will let you select the dimension according to the account you entered and any previous dimension(s).  This is a neat feature.  What is not so neat is that when it came time to enter our budget, the dimensions set up in the advanced rules did not appear in the Dimensions for Budgeting box.  In other words, you can’t budget down to the detail of all your dimensions.  (Zvika mentioned this in his reply.)  You will need to remember this if you intend to use the budget module with AX 2012 R3.  Our implementation partner gave us a workaround to get our budget loaded, which was a lot of extra work for me.  So keep this in mind.  I am told that this problem will not happen in Dynamics 365 for Operations.  Can anyone confirm this?
