Sales Rpt New Product Dev – AX 2012 R2 CU8
Posted by Unknown Member on February 1, 2017 at 4:26 pm-
Hello All,
I’m trying to find a way to run/create a sales report for our products that we consider ‘new product development’ items. Once an item is no longer considered a ‘new’ product we would like for it to drop off the report automatically at a point in time.
Has anyone ever done something similar to this? Have ideas on how this could be accomplished?
Looking for something creative… š
Thanks,
Sam

Hi Sam
I suppose you must be having a checkbox on the Item master to mark the item as new product. In case you don’t have then you can have one and then In your sales report you can have join with Inventtable and can show the items which are having the checkbox as checked.——————————

Item Attributes might help you achieve this purpose. Create a list to identify the type of product and map this field with your reports.——————————

Sam, Good morning. Well, I worked in the poultry industry for 20 years and this “new” product development was always a challenge. So, what we did was use a unique series of Finished Goods numbers “99001 to 99999” because, there were constant changes to formulas or other BOM changes during the development process….and we did not want to put these products for sale with our primary Finished Goods (we used the “Sales” $$ for the development items to offset the production costs for the R&D department.
Also, we charged the R&D department with materials and Line Time when the development products were produced. Now, when a developed item was approved for production, we gave it a new Finished Good number.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need more info.

Hi Sam,
We are on 2012 and there is a standard AX report in Sales and marketing > Reports > Statistics > Customer > Customer/item statistics. I just did a quick check and added to the query the Created date and time field on Items. I made my Criteria for Created date and time be created after 10/30/2016 (10/30/2016..) and ran the report and it looked good. I chose posting by Item and it looked like a decent first pass.
Maybe that is a place to start.——————————

Hi Sam,
I think Susan’s on the right track here….a link from the Customer Invoice Lines table (CustInvoiceTrans) to the Item Master (InventTable) to get the createdDateTime field might do it.
From there you could calculate that “New” date range window independently for each item so that if you wanted you could go back in time and see how any item or groups of similar items have sold during the first X months/days after they were created.
Sounds like a great report that could answer a number of interesting questions…
Are the numbers trending up or down over time?
Are specific customers more likely than others to purchase new products?
Are certain sales people more effective at selling a brand new product?
Do the metrics vary significantly by geography or type of customer?
Etc…Regards,
Jason

I think this can accpmplished in different ways
1- create a new item catalog and run the report base on those ones
2- create a filed on the item master (or use one that’s is not use) and create a category for it and then run reports bas on that field, if you do this you can use drompdown list so mor options you can have or create more than one field and you can use different criteria and filters when running the report——————————
