All retailers track their inventory physically and financially by retail stores. Setting up general ledger in Dynamics AX, we mostly setup account structure with ‘retail channel’ financial dimension

Currently it is not possible to default this dimension from the warehouse (=store) selected on a transaction, and user is faced either customising (quite common) or creating a site for each store (not great)

Microsoft has a “suggestion” website where you can vote you want this enhancement to the product (to have the ability to default financial dimension based on the selection of a warehouse)

I want to encourage you to sign up to the site below and vote in favour of that change.

Thanks for highlighting this. Ā We are a retailer and have a customization for this.

One question though: what discourages you from having a different site setup for each store?

?Using the Site Dimension Link is a good option, but there is a limitation if you want to use more than 1 Financial dimension.

Vote for this idea which supports Zvika’s link AND to expand the number of Financial dimensions allowable on the Site Dimension link.

second, the ability to link financial dimensions to inventory dimensions other than sites. Especially the ability to link financial dimensions to warehouses is an often required feature from a finance & accounting perspective.

when you are 100’s of stores, and new ones opening all the time, it is an added burden to have to set up a new store AND a new warehouse.

It is easier to just create a new warehouse/store and add it to an existing site.

In addition there are unwanted side effects: a new site will also have its own item cost, and you find yourself with slight variations in items costs on each store which is not ideal

Once you have separate sites, transfer orders start generating ledger transactions and there are other side effects.

Ability to Aggregate POS Deposits by Tender instead of Customer on End of Day Statements Ā· Microsoft Ideas
Currently, the End of Day Statement creation process aggregates the POS payment journals by Day and by Store (by virtue of being on the EOD statement), but then aggregates by Customer and then by Tender. This leads to a situation where the payment data in the Bank module is de-aggregated versus the data that appears on the bank statement.

?I agree, and gave it my vote, and encourage others to do the same. This is a channel that Microsoft has given us so that we can express as users what we think the product should include or beef up. We should all take advantage of their willingness to listen to us the users.

Done! I remember this issue with a retail implementation several years ago. Good luck.
