Is there a way to enter a project budget without having the system adjust it after a cost has been incurred.Ā  We want to see and maintain the original project budget.Ā  It seems like when we lock, unlock and re-lock a budget, the budget adds the original budget amount plus the actual cost at the time the budget is re-locked.Ā  For example, we created a project budget of $100K and lock the budget.Ā  Over time, we incur cost of $20K.Ā  If we unlock the budget and re-lock it, the “budget” has now increased to $120K.Ā  Are we doing something wrong?Ā  Any suggestions would be great.Ā  Thanks.

      Hi James,

I have never seen or heard of the issue that you are describing.Ā  Once a project budget is approved via workflow (which can be automatic), the only way that they can be adjusted is using a Project budget revision.Ā  In this case, the user identifies the changes to the project budget and submits it for workflow approval.

Can you explain the “unlock” and “lock” terms that you are referring to?Ā  Have you implemented some sort of customization?

      Hi Corey

I don’t think it is a customization.Ā  We do have a module within AX that has been that is similar to the PM&A.Ā  Here is a screen capture.

There are number of steps we go through when creating the budget.Ā  I say this loosely since the budgets seem to change all the time.Ā  And we may be using this terms incorrectly when AX may think of this as “forecast”?Ā  I’m not sure.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t involved in the original installation so this is legacy process.

Thanks for any help on this.Ā

      Hi James,

You are referring to Project forecasts, which are totally separate from Project budgets.Ā  Unfortunately, I have limited experience in this area.

Hopefully, someone else will be able to assist!
