Hierarchy based workflow not working for 1 user

We have a hierarchy based workflow for General Ledger journals. The workflow is fine for all other users, however for 1 user in particular, when they submit journals for approval, the workflow routes it back to them for approval instead of their manager. I just tested the workflow by submitting a journal and it sent the journal into my manager’s queue, as it should.

I checked the user’s Position setup in the HR module and it appears correct. I checked the workflow step and there is no escalation that would send it back to the user for any reason, and the “Assignment” step is setup correctly (it worked when I submitted it). There are no other Journal workflows.

Is there anything else I can check? It’s only for the 1 user and it seems to happen consistently.

    Thanks.

I’m assuming it’s not completed in your scenario and the notification going back to the submitter is not one that it’s completed. My next thought would be it’s timing out and routing back. I would certainly be looking at the workflow history where it made the assignment.

Another thought would be is there a delegation in play here with a certain user as you implied its not all submissions.

      Hi Mark.

I checked and the intended approver doesn’t have any delegation rules (active or history), but that was a great idea.

The workflow history shows that it routed the task directly to the submitter, it didn’t time out or show anything different than other instances where it routes it to a user’s manager. The workflow is behaving like this user is their manager as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. Any other ideas are appreciated.

      Regards,

      Patrick
