      Hello,

Is there are repository out there of Workflows that I can download? I’m working on creating P/R Workflows and am looking for some examples.

      Thanks!

      Mike

Are you looking for samples of workflow configuration?
If so, there are many examples/demo videos on the internet about setting up workflows.

      This is one example:
      http://us.hitachi-solutions.com/blog/microsoft-dynamics-ax-workflow-approval-processes/

Are you looking to CREATE from scratch a new workflow template? (this is something done by a developer).

Microsoft provides out of the box templates to many entities in the system as of AX 2012, including purchase requisition, so typically creating workflow from scratch is not necessary.
Still, there are many blogs out there and an AXUG Summit conference session that was given about how to build workflow template from scratch

      Hi Zvika,

I’m a developer and I’m creating new workflow templates from scratch.

I don’t see any “out of the box templates” in my system. They would be helpful. We are on AX 2012 R3 CU8.

I thought there might be a site or 2 out there that people have uploaded workflow templates to that I could download from.

      Regards,

      Mike

To see an out of the box template, go to any module that has workflow (for example – Procurement and Sourcing)

Procurement and Sourcing > Setup > Procurement and Sourcing Workflows
This form is used to created and maintain configuration for existing workflow templates.
When you press the “New” button a dialog opens showing all available workflow
In the image below you can see one of the available out of the box purchase requisition workflow templates.
Once a configuration is created, in the “type” field you can see the entity name, in this case “PurchReqReview”
I believe you can go to the AOT find that entity and review the code of the template.

      I hope that helps

Thanks for the information Zvika. It’s been helpful.  But I think I’ve been using the incorrect terms.

I was wondering if there are “workflows” that I could download and checkout, not templates.  Sorry for the confusion.
I was hoping I could import some. I’m looking for workflows that have been exported to XML and that can be imported into AX.

Just to make sure we are on the same page – these “XML” configurations are not something necessarily created by a developer. They are created from inside the AX client, using the workflow editor.

As I mentioned in my original email, there are many blogs/training videos on the internet on how to use the workflow editor.

It will be a bit complicated to import someone else’s actual workflow configuration since workflow configurations make references to specific things that has been configured on one’s environment (user groups, security roles etc.) hence if you tried to import these configurations and the particular entity does not exist on your environment the workflow will import with errors, in a non-usable state.

You may want to poke around in the Microsoft demo environment – there might be some pre-configured workflows there you can take a look at.

I’m glad this came up again. I’d like a template for Item Creation but all I see are these…

      It’s a “known” issue Sean
There are plenty of templates for approving draft transactions (invoice, requisition, Invoice proposal etc.) but few to no templates for approving creation of new entities (customer, vendor, item, bank account…)

I keep seeing these built as a customization over and over again in AX 2012 projects, I don’t know if there is much improvement in Dynamics 365

We have quite a few templates available (50ish) for DAX2009 and DAX2012. Please contact me if you want more information.
