Direct Delivery AX 2012 RTM

Hello AXperts!
We are on AX 2012 RTM.Ā We currently manage direct deliveries via Sales Order lines to a specific warehouse designated to show virtual inventory which we know is directly delivered from vendor to customer.Ā This requires our shipping department to pick and pack the order.Ā We feel AX’s direct delivery feature may be something we should consider to alleviate the unnecessary picking and packing.Ā If you use direct delivery and can offer any lessons learned from your experience that would be great.
Thank you,

Hi,When using direct delivery and you invoice the purchase order, then the sales order lines get delivered. The only step from the sales side is then to invoice the order.
The down side to using direct delivery is that the orders get very tightly bound together.Ā
Regarding using a different site or warehouse for the direct shipments. I worked at a company where we did it. It was because we had very different ways of handling stock order and direct deliveries, since the last was always whole containers.
At my current company we use the same warehouse, because some times the orders are delivered directly and other times via our warehouse.Ā
The difference between to two are delivery times and volumen the first containers from China to the whole world the second machine part delivered from Germany to Scandinavia.——————————

?Like Kaj indicates, if you have different units of measure between Sales and Purchasing, there is no logic that creates the PO using the purchasing UOM – it will use the sales UOM, which can cause confusion including shipments of wrong qtys. Also, you may also have to apply sales minimum order qtys and multiples.
Serialized / batch trackedĀ items are usually not identified in this process, so RMAs for such items take investigation.
Hopefully the customer never receives packaging documents with the cost on them – something we have no control over.Otherwise, we use this feature every day and it is nice that it does not involve receivingĀ & shippingĀ to pack slip something they don’t physically handle.
We modified our Purchase order to put in big bold letters that the PO is a direct delivery to help vendors ship it to the customer address, not us. We frequently used to have shipments come to us that were direct. The delivery mode you select for the Sales order is copied to the PO, which may not be appropriate for the vendor.
