      Hi All,

Has anyone implemented Data Masons EDI with Dynamics 365 F&O?

I am trying to understand how tightly their product is integrated with Dynamics, and how much out is out of the box (as opposed to having to build as a customization)

I understand their product does the communication with the EDI counter part, and the translation from the EDI format (X.12 etc.) to an XML format that can be uploaded into D365.

How much customization one has to do in order to upload and process that XML in D365?

Assuming a company is using a complete out of the box D365 functionality – does the data entity / web service to upload the message comes  OOTB or provided by data masons or you have to build it yourself?

Is their product capable of triggering creation/posting of the appropriate transactions in D365 (packing slip, invoice), or again this is all something a company has to build/customize in D365 themselves?

      Hi Zvika,

Long time since last time we spoke. Here are my answers to your questions. In summary, Data Masons is a very flexible tool that has its own application to create the appropriate mappings which is also use to customize the OData calls:

understand their product does the communication with the EDI counter part, and the translation from the EDI format (X.12 etc.) to an XML format that can be uploaded into D365. Yes, it consumes not only X12s and EDIFACTs but also can consume CSVs and XMLs. The platform transforms everything into an XML and stores them into the application database, this is then used by the mappings to transform them and post them to D365. These configurations (mappings) maps XML nodes/tags to the fields of the OData entity. No need for extra integrations or steps outside Data Masons to upload the data to D365. Since this is done via OData, if the document(s) you are trying to upload are massive, it might take some time to upload. There is also ways to implement parallel posting using this tool.

How much customization one has to do in order to upload and process that XML in D365? If you use OOB entities and logic, there is no need for customizations.

Assuming a company is using a complete out of the box D365 functionality – does the data entity / web service to upload the message comes  OOTB or provided by data masons or you have to build it yourself? comes OOB

Is their product capable of triggering creation/posting of the appropriate transactions in D365 (packing slip, invoice), or again this is all something a company has to build/customize in D365 themselves? If the functionality is available using an Exposed entity, then you can trigger it using Data Masons.

      Thanks,
      Frank Boller

      Hi Zvika,

Almost all functionality used by Data Masons EDI is out of the box. Little to no customization is required to use this with D365 F&O. They use Odata to transfer data between their EDI software & D365 F&O. XML conversion is part of that process which is setup. This process works using the standard data entities provided in the system, so no customization is required for it.

But the service to connect to D365 F&O & upload the XML files needs to be installed. It will bbe part of the installation process performed by Data Masons.

Posting of Purchase order ASN & Invoices is supported with their product. However, depending on the company’s requirement, little customization might be required.

      Hope this helps.
