We are using Create!form Version 7.0 and recently replaced several of our printers.  We are now unable to print any of our Create!forms documents to the new printers.  Native AX documents print fine, but our invoices and checks use customized Create!forms layouts.  It’s been about 2.5 yrs since we set up the original printers and the new ones appear to be set up exactly the same way but won’t print.  The documents seem to spool to and through CFDirector just fine but they are never making it to the printer.  The shared printers we’re using and the CFDirector reside on the same server, however we seem to be missing the step that makes them “talk” to each other.  Any suggestions on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks ~

Did you set up your printers using IP addresses?  Did those change with your new printers?  Have you contacted Bottomline?  They’ve always been very helpful when I contact them, and I have before about printers.

A couple of things to check – sorry if they sound obvious:

      1. Are the new printers enabled on the PrecisionForms server?  You would need to go into the PrecisionForms server application and make sure.
      2. Might want to try restarting the Print Spooler service
      3. Are the printer names the same as the old?  If they aren’t then you would need to make some changes in AX Connector:
        1. In AX – navigate to System administration –> Setup –> PrecisionForms –> Delivery destinations
        2. Select a printer from the Destinations tab or add a new printer if the new printers are named differently
        3. Click the Setup tab.  In the Printer Network ID box the printer name needs to reflect what your printer is named on the network (this will be the same printer name that was defined on the PrecisionForms server)
        4. In AX – navigate to System administration –> Setup –> PrecisionForms –> Enabled reports
        5. Select a report on the Enabled reports tab and click the Destinations tab.  You will need to remove the old printer from Destinations assigned and assign the new printer which you just set up in Delivery destinations.

Thank you for all of the input!
Just as we were planning to call Bottomline we started experiencing problems with our Screen preview as well.  We re-set CFDirector  to a prior version and then restarted the Create!Forms Server and everything seems to be working now.  How often the simple solution eludes us.

      Thanks again~

      Hi Jody,
I have been in your situation before and understand how frustrating it is!

Does it print garbly gook?  If not, delete the printer from Windows and recreate it.

What driver are you using?  First, you should try the latest PCL driver found on the manufacturer’s web site, as many times the generic Windows one does not suffice.  If that does not work, change the queue and Create!form over to using the manufacturer’s latest PCL driver.

Did you upgrade Create!form recently?  There could be a director issue, especially if you had some customization to the director project.

      Regards,
      Dag III

Thanks for the input.  I believe the new printers were setup with the manufacturer’s drivers, I’m double checking to make sure.  Our CFDirector file is just a basic generic format and it is still working with all of the remaining printers (and output formats) that were originally set up.  I feel like we  are missing just that one small piece that allows the director to recognize the printer and complete the puzzle.  We re-installed a printer that previously worked with the Create!Forms/AX output and it is not working now either.  Unless one of us has an epiphany over the weekend we’ll contact Bottomline on Monday for assistance.  I’ll post back here once we get it working.  Thanks!
