Hi there,

We operate as a company in multiple locations around north america.

We are considering having 2 dimensions, 1 for department (IT, HR, Accounting etc.), and 1 for physical location (Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary etc.)

Our corporate approval matrix is by department, and by location. So for example the person approving IT expenses in Vancouver is different than the person approving IT expenses in Toronto. 

Any idea how I can get the purchase order workflow consider both dimensions in a condition to who needs to be providing approval?

I want to avoid having 100’s of conditions in the workflow configuration checking for each combination of department and location.

HI Zvika.  We operate 480 restaurant and are in the same boat.  Our restaurants don’t do POs but they do receive invoices for approval.  Our General Managers in each restaurant are the approvers of those invoices.  To figure out the mapping of restaurant number to GM, we added a field to our organization hierarchy and then built a batch job to assign each GM to a restaurant in the org hierarchy.  The batch job is finding who to assign by looking at all the “GM” positions in the system and then finding the employee currently in that position at each restaurant.  Then our approval workflow can then just walk the organization hierarchy for approval.  It was a little tricky to get going but we have been running for 1.5 years and has worked great.  Let me know if you need any other information.  Thanks.
