Hey everybody – what is the functionality called for the following example?
Imagine we sell toothbrushes, and we want each order for sku TOOTHBRUSH to automatically include a free sample tube of sku TOOTHPASTE (1:1 ratio, so if somebody orders 10 of sku TOOTHBRUSH they should get 10 of sku TOOTHPASTE).
What is that functionality called in BC? I think it’s called Supplemental Items in other products, but that doesn’t yield any results searching in BC. And it looks like Kuma has an “Additional Items” addon that might work, but I thought there was something that does this baked into BC. Please advise!

There is no out-of-the box functionality for this in Business Central or NAV. You can do some creative things, however, like create a new item 3000 (Toothbrush with toothpaste) and price it equal to item 1000 (toothbrush). You can then set up a production or assembly BOM where item 3000 (toothbrush/toothpaste combo) has components 1000 (toothbrush) and 2000 (toothpaste).
Any one have any other ideas?

Lewis – thanks for your suggestion! Unfortunately, I am trying to do this without creating a new item number with a BoM. This special applies to only a handful of our thousands of SKUs, and both solutions available right now (enter a separate N/C line for the toothpaste or use a new item number for the BoM) require the order entry person to remember to which items it applies. PopUp Notes to the rescue! 🙂
