Our order entry people report on occasion that the line numbers on a Sales Order will be totally random. I am at a loss for why this happens. At first I would chalk it up to them hand-keying in the wrong spot, but it is happening to far too many who SWEAR it is not a focus issue.
On a normal order, the line numbers will be 10000, 20000, 30000, etc. They are automatically assigned when new lines are created. Has anyone ever had this? I cannot find the common issue here. If I don’t resolve, not the end of the world, but I thought I would toss this out there. Example below.

Heather,Ā
When you insert a line between 2 existing lines, NAV assigns it the number in the middle (1/2) of the two lines. Insert a line between 20000 and 30000 and it will be assigned 25000. Based on this, the lines were inserted into the order as below. The first number represents when in the entry sequence the line was inserted and the line number indicates where.
Sequence – Assigned Line Number
1 – 10000
2 ā 20000
7 – 20625
6 – 21250
5 – 22250
4 – 25000
3 ā 30000
I hope this helps, but nothing strange is going on.
