Now that we have NAV 2017 I am looking into the SQL Database locks functionality from the Dev Environment.Ā  Though at a first glance it seemed to be exactly what I needed, I don’t think it is working as I would have expected.Ā  Here is a snapshot of the screen:

This shows that my user (SWKjason_ad) is granted an exclusive locks on the Error Log table (this table has millions of entries and I am simply deleting them all).Ā  There are about 20 entries in this screen for my user id but all tied together with the same Transaction ID (love this).Ā  This makes me think there are many threads performing this operation.Ā  Everything is great so far.

Then I logged in as a different user (SWKuser2) through the NAV Windows Client and went to the same Error Log table that was being deleted.Ā  I attempted to Delete a record and fully expected to be waiting for the other process to complete since it had an exclusive lock on the Error Log table.Ā  My process did exactly that, so still all is as I would have expected.

Then I jumped back over to the SQL Database Lock screen and hit refresh.Ā  It did not show SWKuser2 SQL Lock Request of Waiting.Ā  Even though back in the NAV Windows Client I am waiting, it did not show me anywhere in this tool.

So either I am doing something wrong or this tool is not really working correctly (Microsoft please don’t say this is “by design” because that would be silly).

So from what I have seen this screen shows who is doing the locking but not who is being locked.Ā  I would really like to see both for this to be effective.Ā  Have I done something wrong or have other people seen locks that are Waiting?
