      ?I’m in NAV 2015.

I’m trying to create a standard Bom for an existing Finish Good item that will consume (have the component line be the same item as the Output item)

My certified BOM version is 0005 which has the actual list of components.Ā Ā Ā  I’m creating a BOM version 0006 and getting an error that doesn’t make sense to me.Ā Ā Ā Ā  In my Bom version 0006, I’m attempting to consume the same item as the output item.

Basically, I’m trying to create a new bom version that can be used for Reworking the parent item and add incremental labor cost to it.
      Is this possible?

This is likely caused by a loop.Ā  Review the changes to your new version and make sure you don’t have a sub assembly loop.Ā  Item A requires Item B which requires Item A…continues forever.

The issue that you have is that you are create a BOM versions that is consuming the item that it is outputting. This is creating a circular reference which is why you are getting the BOM Level error.

What costing method are you using? If it is standard, then cost will not be added to the item.

You cannot create a Bill of Material with the item as a component.

You can create a production order and add the item as a component.Ā  This is how many companies do their rework, rebuild, etc.Ā  This is a manual process where you create the order, you can refresh the order and then go into the components and change the components on the production order to be the item and any additional components you may need.Ā  You can also change the routing as needed.

This is the way we handle our rework.Ā  A new production order is created and then that finished good is added on the component lines.Ā  That way we consume the product that was reworked and get the added cost associated with the rework.

?When you use a new production order is it identified as rework or does it just look like a regular production order?Ā  We are looking at ways to include rework labor also.
