We are going Live with Relationship Management next week and I have some thoughts and a question in regards to Campaigns.

We will have a few campaigns to start out.Ā  From these campaigns we will create segments (otherwise known as lists).Ā  From the segments we will create To-do’s and then Log the segment.Ā  Logging the segment basically deletes the segment but creates a few things while it does that:
      1) 1 Campaign Entry record
      2) 1 Logged Segment record
      3) 1 Interaction Log Entry for each segment line (The duration field and the cost field can be rolled up to the Campaign Entry record)

So now we are left with a Campaign Entry record tied to a bunch of interaction log entries (and a logged segment also tied to the same Interaction Log entries but I don’t see us using this for anything).Ā  So to do analysis on the campaign it would be accomplished by looking at the associated Interaction Log Entries.Ā  There is a report called Campaign Details which shows some of this but it is a fairly silly, not so useful report.

But what if I assign the Campaign No. to a few sales orders?Ā  When you fill in the Campaign No. field on the sales header it will re-pull the dimensions using the dimensions set up on the campaign.Ā  Also the Campaign No. will be passed to the posted Invoice.Ā  Besides that I do not see that when you post the sales order that it creates either a Campaign Entry or an Interaction Log.Ā  So because of this it seems that (without a mod) the Campaign isn’t really aware that there are sales orders or posted invoices associated to it.Ā  Do people agree with this or am I missing something?

      Hi Jason,

There is one other way i know of that links this together which is through the “Log Interaction” option on the request page of some reports. The “Sales Invoice (Pre-Printed)” (report 10070) and “Order Confirmation” (report 205) are two examples. If you check off Log Interaction and the Campaign No. is filled in on the Sales Order or Posted Sales Invoice then it will log an interaction attached to the campaign and create a Campaign Entry.
