Is there a trick to preserving leading zeros in a text/code field with all numbers through Excel and configuration packages into BC? I’m moving data from a NAV system to BC and losing all the leading zeros in Excel.

I’ve tried setting Excel formatting to show the 0s (Special Format, Zip Code). Doesn’t get through to BC.

I’ve tried leading the value with a ‘ which again shows correctly in Excel (though it shows the warning about number being formatted as text), but the field ends up in BC with the ‘.

Example- post codes from Puerto Rico, etc. Dimensions like 00 or 01.

      Hi Ted,

I did a quick sample and I was able to import ZIP Code 00234 without any issue. I changed the excel format to ‘Text’ and imported it without any problem.

      THANK YOU Kristoffer!

That worked! I had tried other ways to format as text, not this way.

For those who stumble across this, here’s what I did:
      1. Create Configuration Package
      2. Export to Excel
      3. Open in Excel
      4. Select the column which will have the data with leading zeros.
      5. Change the format to text. (If it already shows as text, change it to general, then back to text)
      6. Paste the data into Excel.
      7. Save the sheet.
      8. Normal Configuration Package processing from here.

      DONE!

Now, I just have to ID each and every field with leading zeros (our Global Dimension 1 is one of them).
