NAV and EDI
Posted by Unknown Member on April 14, 2017 at 5:55 pm-
We have a customer that may require us to move to EDI.Ā I’m curious of what others have used in way of a fully integrated EDI or a 3rd party document management solution.Ā I’d like to hear your successes, failures and recommendations.
Thanks
We are on NAV 2016.

Hi Bill,
We have customers using (in alphabetical order) DiCentral and Lanham EDI for embedded EDI handling. There are also other well integrated solutions like (again, alphabetically) DataMasons, RedTail, SPSCommerce, etc.
There is another solution that some customers look to for low cost EDI handling, called TruCommerce (I might have misspelled it). I’m sure the product itself is good, but we’ve find the integration to NAV is very rudimentary and leaves a lot to be desired.
Good luck on your search!

Hi Bill!We have used both an outsourced model (Paragon) and embedded (Lanham EDI).Ā We have grown to over 200 trading partners and have learned many lessons over the years using EDI.Ā I find that for low partner counts that do not require a high level of customization in their maps, the embedded solutions that AJ mentioned in this thread are good recommendations that should be explored.Ā If you intend to upgrade NAV on a regular basis (every 1-3 years), make sure you are working with a solution that stays on top of releases, as you do not want to reinvest in EDI at a later date (lesson learned for us).Ā
For high partner counts and complex mapping, I also recommendĀ considering anĀ outsourced solution as these will allow you to provide standard NAV data and keep the complexities outside of your ERP system and companies that specialize in EDI tend to have “seen it all” and bring you up to speed in a small amount of time.Ā That doesn’t mean embedded solutions aren’t a good fit, but I bled a lot of money on an hourly basis to get the customizations and testing we needed in place and in almost all cases, the time needed to complete the partner setup exceeded the estimates.Ā However, our outsourced solution came with a fixed rate per map setup fee, which was great and was something we could budget for.Ā Some mappings are quick and easy and self-maintained, but some (and in our case a lot) require a lot of time and effort.
These are just generalized comments based on my EDI experience and there are many nuances to consider.Ā I would be happy to discuss further with you if you would like.
Tony

We are using SPS for EDI, but we are manually entering data into NAV.Ā Ā Can anyone help me understand an easy solution for dropping SPS information into NAV?Ā SPS does not profess to know how to do this and my VAR for NAV does not really understand this either.Ā Surely there is a canned solution somewhere?——————————

Beck’s Consulting has an integration piece for SPS to Nav.Ā In my experience it is an involved implementation.Ā Long run I believe it will be better for us than Lanham’s EDI.——————————

As a reminder, you can also use the ICS capabilties in NAV to also accept various e-invoicing formats. Ā This was a new addition and it allows customers to accept e-network, PEPPOL, and other trading network invoice formats directly into NAV through the ICS service that Microsoft has OEM’ed into NAV/D365. Ā For more information, please contact “ICS_Sales@kofax.com”.Ā -Bob

Hi Bill,
You might also want to look at the Connectivity Studio from To-Increase.
I have used this in the past and found it extremely flexible. Since the connectivity studio works with XSLT transformations, you can define you Nav data once and then just create XSLTĀ documents for the different partners.Ā

We use Lanham EDI and Eship.Ā Currently have about 100 trade partners.Ā The Lanham Solution works great.Ā We currently do all of our own mapping and setups.Ā We have found that doing this in house with the Lanham Solution works really well for us.Ā Lanham also has an outsourced option for EDI.We also use Lanham Services (direct support via Lanham) when needed to help with errors and mapping issues.

We use SPS Commerce and bcEDI. Ā SPS Commerce is the EDI provider, but the bcEDI (by Beck Consulting) allows us to have a fully integrated solution (We never have to enter data twice. Ā All data flows into and out of NAV). Ā Beck helped us with all of the NAV work, and SPS takes care of the mapping. Ā This allows our users to do testing with new trading partners without extensive IT knowledge. Ā Hope this helps!

Hello Bill – I can see you have a full gamut of possibilities here and of course, I’b be happy to show you our solution and discuss the pro’s and con’s.ĀIt’s pretty clear that some customer’s want a managed solution while others want more local control. Ā Lanham’s Advanced Commerce ERP allows you that range of choice. It is up to you how dependent or independent you choose to be.Ā
If you are interested in taking a look, let me know and I will set something up for you.Ā
Cheers,
