I have a shipment date on my sales order (based on a requested delivery date less shipping time). However, for some customers I need to backup the shipment date to allow time to obtain a third party certificate of analysis. If I change my shipping time on the customer to allow for the extra days, the shipment date is effectively updated thus providing manufacturing with good information as to when the product must be on the floor.
The rub is that my shipping department thinks it needs to ship on the shipment date and for these orders (requiring certificates) it’s a later date….
Any great ideas on handling this?

Would it be possible in this situation to create a new Variant (COA?) + Stockkeeping Unit and extend the safety lead time for the variant?
With a variant to allow for COA, the production date would be moved up because of the additional safety lead time, but the shipment date would remain the same.

I don’t know if this is the “great idea” you requested, but what about adding a new date to the Sales Order Header that indicates when the order needs to be on the floor? Ā Call it “Floor Date”?
In the cases where no COA is needed, the “Floor Date” and “Ship Date” would be the same. Ā If a COA is required, the “Floor Date” would be a few days ahead of the “Ship Date”.
