I believe there are still only 2 Global, 6 Shortcut, and unlimited dimensions in Nav 2017. Is this correct or has there been a change to the number of dimensions allowed from our current version (NAV 2009 R2 with Granule 4780 Advanced Dimensions) to NAV 2017?

Yes, out of the box it works the same way in the general ledger setup with assigning two global dimensions and the option for 6 more shortcut dimensions.  In general you can still create as many dimensions as you want and manually call them out on transactions/entries but in order for them to have their own column you would need to discuss customization with your partner but it can be done.

Some consultants never want to throw the word ENDLESS dimensions.

But you always had them viewable, reportable since the old versions of Navision.

Just NAV stills has the same thing 2 global are actual fields holding the values. The rest are quick temp visible fields (Shortcut 3,4,5,6,7,8) on the screen.

You really want to take advantage of the reporting capabilities Navision has with the 2015, 2016 and 2017:

      Analysis by Dimension
      Sales Analysis by Dimension
      Purch Analysis by Dimension
      See how Inventory is doing

I like this file below because it has hyper links in the content areas.

Note: The Dimension storing of values are completely different now than before. It uses Dimension Set ID’s. You can research this further if you need too.

      Have fun.
