Has anyone turned this setting on for their NAV instance?Ā Ā  I was asked to see what the result would be and once I turned it on (for our test system), I could no longer connect my client.Ā  Each time I tried, the server instance stopped running.

You will need to install the encryption key from the NAV Powershell cmdlet, e.g.Ā New-NAVEncryptionKeyĀ  -KeyPath “C:UserDataSQLKeyMySQLKey” -Password (Get-Credential).Password

      Hi Lewis,

You should not need an encryption key to encrypt the connection, but you do need to have SSL enabled on the protocols for the server in the SQL Configuration Manager.

      https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189067(v=sql.105).aspx

Once enabled, you can test this with SQL Server Management Studio to see if it’s working before you attempt to have NAV connect to it. Ā On the Connect to Server window when SSMS starts up, click on Options, and then on the Connection Properties tab, check the “Encrypt Connection” box.
