EDI and ASNs
Posted by Unknown Member on July 2, 2020 at 7:50 am-
I am not sure if I am explaining this correctly. We use EDI in Nav 2015 to create and send ASNs (Edifact DESADV or ANSI 856).
We can only send one ASN per Bill Of Lading. When we try to send multiple ASNs on one BOL we have issues.ĀEach ASN is not separated. All information is under one ASN.
It also combines quantities for like part numbers.ĀIs there a way to send multiple ASNs through Navision 2015?
When we were on Nav 3.7 we created maps using IBM Gentran Director and had same problems.Ā
When we updated to Nav 2015 we have Data Masons creating the maps but still have the same problems.ĀIs there a way to send Multiple ASNs (DESADV or 856)?
Please contact me with any questions or comments.Ā
Best Regards,

You didn’t mention what EDI vehicle you’re using, but if it’s Lanham’s E-Ship and EDI, try this.Ā On the packing rule that you use for this trading partner, look on the ASN tab.Ā There is a field there called “ASN with PO per Document”.Ā If that is unchecked, check that box.Ā This tells the ASN create code to separate the ASN details by individual PO and show separate ASN lines as defined in your 856 map.Ā I ran into this at an early install of the Lanham product and checking this took care of the issue.——————————

Thank you Wayne for the information. I know we use Lanham E-Ship and I will have to double check but I think EDI too.Ā
I will check out the ASN tab on Packing Rule for the Partner and if know checked I will and then test.Ā
I will let you know the results.
Thank you again for the information.#EDI

Hi Don,From an EDI (ASN) perspective, in order to consolidate multiple orders/BOLs into one ASN, you will need something that ties these BOLs/orders together.Ā Do you have the capability to generate a master BOL for these shipments?Ā If not, is there another way to tie them together?

Thank you Donna for your reply. I am looking into to see if there is a Master BOL available in Nav.

Don,
Unless there has been a recent change that I’m not aware of, there isn’t a master BOL in E-Ship per se. One of our accounts has that requirement and our work around was to create a separate BOL for the trading partner that isn’t location specific as the master. We used one of the custom fields on the BOL header for the master BOL number. The master BOL number is then entered on each location specific BOL that you create for the shipment to that trading partner. Where the master BOL number is needed in the ASN, the map pulls that number.
Where multiple sales orders with different customer PO’s are shipped to the same location, one BOL per location can handle that and give you the details in the ASN file per PO number when you set that flag in the packing rule that I mentioned. Our account has both the master BOL and detailed ASN’s and is handling both using the methods described here. This may work for you.

Hi Wayne, thanks for additional information. I am out of office this week. I have looked at some of the Packing Rules and see that the tab for ASN is not checked. When I get back next week I will take the main customer packing rule and check the tab and do some testing. I will use three orders on one BOL and see if the one ASN will separate each order by ASN. I will letĀ you know results.
