Today Microsoft broadcast their spring Business Forward event, and you can (and if you’re a manager at your organization, should) watch the replay here.
At 39 minutes in, James Phillips, Corporate Vice President – Business Applications, does a really nice job of laying out what digital transformation is. He provides more specific examples later in the broadcast.
What I especially liked is that he highlighted “empowered employees”. We are presented with the opportunity unlike ever before for everyone to be data analysts – to see trends and insights that enable the the organization to grow and be better. It’s pretty cool. But the organization has to enable it. I also liked how he took the definition of Digital Transformation beyond new capabilities and better service to the conclusion that it is vital for the next wave of differentiation.

I’m anxious to read this article but after reading your recap, all I can think of is that most of the companies that I work with are still just trying to get there systems working for them effectively and efficiently and they are so far from away from embracing digital transformation that its years away. I would be super pumped to hear from a company that is so advanced as to be digitally transforming….
