Barcode System Recommendations
Posted by Sara Sharkey on November 19, 2019 at 5:23 pm-
Our company uses NAV 2016 and is thinking about integrating a barcode system for shipping/receiving/inventory purposes.Ā Any recommendations along with pros/cons and issues regarding the product would be useful.
Thanks!

https://www.dmsiworks.com/products/mobile-warehouse-data-collection/Ā is a top notch NAV / BC expert and built a product that really works.Ā The product adds the desired functionality and it isn’t a giant and complex product where you will only use a small portion of it while paying for all of itĀ As your company grows you may be interested in the other products by InsightWorks.Ā Definitely worth adding this to your evaluation.Ā Ā

Good Morning Sara,
NAV 2016 does have a light WMS system already in its ACDS and other WMS functionality. There is, however, limited functionality to NAV’s WMS Ā and when companies are looking for much more robust Warehouse Management and Shipping capabilities, I can suggest both Insights Works and HighJump Warehouse Edge, which have tight integration to NAV.Ā We offer both of these WMS solutions for NAV and I welcome any questions.
Sincerely,

Boy, I wish we had used Insight Works. I have heard nothing but good about them. Instead we chose to use a solution offered by our partner. It was supposed to be a 3 month project, but it took 18 months. It was supposed to cost $30,000 and it cost us $120,000 and it still is not where we want it. Trust me, stick with the tried and true. I wish we had!?

Building on this reply. Make sure that you understand the discipline required by a WMS system. Mary Lanham makes a good point in another post. Start simple and get your feet on the ground before you get complicated.
NAV/BC has a defined methodology for WMS that may or may not work well for you. Outline your needs and wants before you talk to a vendor. Then question them in depth to understand the rub points where your wants are different than their methodology.
I have seen more than one WMS project fail because of no discipline in the warehouse or unexpressed needs or wants.Sent from my T-Mobile 4G LTE Device——Original Message——

We use Lanham’s ACE warehousing here at Gold Star Foods. We were able to modify it for our needs and it is working very well. We are on an older version, but I did see a demo of their latest version and was highly impressed with how they have enhanced the product. We also use Loftware to print our barcode labels.?

Thanks for the strong reference, Joe!
Sara, barcoding can be a very broad term. Barcoding is definitely used in Warehouse Management Systems, but you do not have to commit to that level of structure and control to use barcoding. If you are looking to barcode products as they arrive, so they can later be easily scanned for shipping, check out Lanham’s E-Receive product here: https://www.lanhamassoc.com/e-receive.htm. This is a simple and inexpensive way to get started with barcoding. If you need more comprehensive WMS functionality, our ACE Warehousing solution can provide that as well.
You should not have trouble implementing a system associated to NAV/BC to meet your needs. All Lanham solutions are built right inside NAV/BC so that you don’t have to have cumbersome interfaces or worry about external data. Everything is in your NAV/BC User Interface for your database.
Always feel free to reach out if we can provide additional information. 678-379-4200. Good luck with your endeavors!

Good morning Sara,Another add-on that I am impressed with is Tasklet Factory. They have many of the standard type functions plus the ability to create custom ones as well. I think it is worth a look!
