Environment: AX R3 CU 13 with all hotfixesHi,
Has anyone else tried to use the standard “Product category hierarchy” entity to import a product category hierarchy?Ā All my attempts fail with errors like this:
Results. Record (‘BKA-0’) . Root node already exists
Results. Record (‘BKS-0’) . Root node already exists
I even setup an export using this same entity and then used the file to import back into AX (after deleting the hierarchy) and it still fails… in other words, it can’t even work with the data that the same entity exports from itself.
Has anyone else experienced this?Ā Do you know how to fix it?
Thanks.

Hi Daniel,
I had the same errors the first time I used the entity but managed to work around it by unchecking the business validations checkbox on the entity. Ā I was then able to import successfully.

Thanks for the reply.Ā I’ve tried with with “business validations” enabled and disabled, and it doesn’t make a difference for me.If you or anyone else has more suggestions, I would appreciate it if you would share.Ā Thanks in advance.

One other thing I forgot to ask: What fields do you populate in the staging table?Ā I have a feeling that I’m missing something.Thanks.

Hi Daniel,
I’m only importing the Category hierarchy ID, Category code and description.Ā Just in case, I’m using the standard DMFEcoResCategoryEntity.

Thanks!Using that entity did the trick.
It doesn’t work if you try to use theĀ DMFEcoResCategoryHierarchyEntity… at least not the way I was trying to use it…. š
Thanks again for your help.

We used the standard entity (this is D365 but should be the same in AX2012 R3).Ā You need parent category on each line or it won’t know to put in a hierarchy type view.Ā Here are the first few lines when we imported a public sector for NIGP codes:
PRODUCTCATEGORYHIERARCHYNAME CATEGORYNAME CATEGORYCODE CATEGORYDESCRIPTION CATEGORYKEYWORDS FRIENDLYCATEGORYNAME ISCATEGORYINHERITINGPARENTCATEGORYATTRIBUTES ISTANGIBLEPRODUCT PARENTPRODUCTCATEGORYCODE PARENTPRODUCTCATEGORYNAME PKWIUCODE NIGP ABRASIVES 005 ABRASIVES 000 NIGP NIGP Abrasive Equipment and Tools 00505 Abrasive Equipment and ToolsĀ 005 ABRASIVES NIGP Abrasives, Coated: Cloth, Fiber, Sandpaper, etc. 00514 Abrasives, Coated: Cloth, Fiber, Sandpaper, etc.Ā 005 ABRASIVES NIGP Abrasives, Sandblasting, Metal 00521 Abrasives, Sandblasting, Metal 005 ABRASIVES ——————————

I spoke too soon.Ā Some categories are importing just fine, but others from the same import are failing with the same error: “Root node already exists.”Ā I set a break point and stepped through the code and found that the problem occurs when AX can’t find the specified parent category.Ā I confirmed that the parent category wasn’t imported, but I can’t figure out *why* it wasn’t imported.Ā I have the source data sorted so that the top level categories are imported first, and then the 2nd level, 3rd level, etc.Ā No error is thrown when the parent categories are skipped.Ā (Not all parents are skipped, just some.)If I import one level at a time, everything works just fine.Ā Unfortunately, AX won’t let you have the same entity multiple times in the same processing group, so this work around is cumbersome (I would have to run four different processing groups), but if that’s the only way to do it, so be it.
If anyone else has experienced this or knows where to look for help with this, I would appreciate it if you would share.
Thanks.

Daniel-Just a thought about this. I wonder if you already have the hierarchies set up in a different legal entity? We are in the midst of adding a new legal entity and I had noticed that our Sales and Expense Category Hierarchies were already in the new legal entity. I’m not sure if these are shared by default or if it might be in the Purchasing Policies.

Thanks for the suggestion.Ā We only have one legal entity though, so I don’t think there is a conflict there.——————————
