In Dynamics BC does anyone have experience using Non-Inventory items to transact (sales orders and purchase orders)? Specifically for drop shipment orders.Ā

Are you talking about Non-Stock Items?Ā  If so, think of that like a Vendor’s Catalog.Ā  It is available to buy/sell, but you haven’t setup the Item Card yet.Ā  When you have a need you can create an actual Item Card from the Non-Stock Item.

Or are you talking about Item’s setup with “Service” as the type?Ā  Which is Microsoft attempting to replace Resources.

Ben, Non-Inventory Items were added in a recent 2018 / BC verison.
They act similar to Service items however they can be used in bills of materials and other places service items were not used.
I have tested them on purchase and sales order but not on drop ship orders.Ā  I am not sure if they will work as a drop ship actually goes into inventory then is shipped on the sales order.Ā  The non-inventory items do not technically go into inventory but since they work on both sales orders and purchase orders it may work.Ā Ā

Have you tried it in a test database?
Why are you using a non-inventory item vs a regular inventory item?

We set up the item card and are referring to Non-Inventory as an item type which we understand is a newer functionality in BC.Ā

We have been testing drop shipments in our sandbox environment with non-inventory (item type). The SOs and POs function as a typical drop-shipment and can be posted. However, the issue we encounter is the statistics and profitability when using drop-shipments the adjusted statistics no longer reflect the item costs and item charges (if applicable) once the PO is posted.

You can only drop ship a “Inventory” type Item.
