I could be wrong, someone else can validate, but I do not think this is possible without customization. Even if you create a workflow without using the templates that are there, the first step of creating a new workflow is selecting the “when event.” This is a list of events available and you can’t create a new “when event” from within the application. I think this is where customization is required.
If you look at the pre-populated list of “when events”, there is no option around the item journal.
If you are on a newer version of BC, you may want to look at the Power Automate approvals to see if that is easier or provides the capabilities without having to do customization.
