That sounds like a fun challenge.

I’d start with Alias’ for the SQL Servers. GPPT has some cool features for passwords if necessary, but I have always wanted to try SQL Alias for a scenario like this.

How much RAM does the SQL Server have installed?

How many cores?

I ended up using GP Power Tools and a variation on the Customer Tracking sample project from the Winthrop GPPT samples site.

I have tried “After Update” and “For Update”.

If I can’t make this work, I may turn to GPPT for a solution. The trigger solution was the quickest or should have been.

The inserts into the tracking table are not attempting to insert the Dex_Row_ID. I have attached the SQL for the audit table and for the matching trigger. What am I missing?

I have been asked to track certain changes to the Customer Master and address tables (RM00101 & RM00102). I have created an “Audit” Tracking table and a proof-of-concept trigger for RM00101.

There are a number of solutions within the GP feature list. And since it’s part of GP, it’s free. Open GP and the Help screen and search for Remove or Removal.

If you hunt around there are also a number of SQL scripts that can help you trim some of your Master tables. Queries to identify Customers or Vendors with no activity in x years.…

Has anyone done work on a replacement, either using GP (2018R2) or a no cost external solution?

Check out Avatax from Avalara. It works well with Dynamics GP.

Certificate issues sound like a likely candidate since it worked in the past.

If you can pinpoint a date where it stopped working for home users, you should be able to find the issue and hopefully have a quick resolution.

If so, and this is getting outside my comfort zone, it is likely due to the initial setup of ESS. Internal users can connect because they are inside your secure network. Allowing access outside the local network takes more setup work so your users can connect but bad players can’t get to your data.

What system are you running, Dynamics GP or D365 and what version?

Are your remote employees using a VPN?

There is a whole security setup discussion about the server being visible inside or also outside of the company network.

First if you can, try running the report from the Azure server directly. This won’t fix anything but may give you more detailed errors.
