Windows 10 and GP2015R2
Posted by David Klubock on January 13, 2017 at 4:15 pm-
Hello:
We are using Great Plains via a remote app and the users local machine is Windows 10. When they use Great Plains they get an issue when the icon tray on the bottom of the screen flickers and locks up the GP screen periodically . Creates a lot of aggravation for the user.
Have other users seen this and applied any fixes to resolve this ?
Tx

What is the server that it is going to? Windows 2012 r2? Is it a published app or rdp and then starting the app?——————————

Can you provide more details, such as:
– version of Dynamics GP
– client PC OS
– if .SET files use mapped drives
– other programs running on host PCWindows 10 implemented some security and network tweaks that certainly can cause some application problems. One thing you might try is seeing if the same setup works but using a Windows 7 box. That will tell you it is the OS and you can inquire with Microsoft as to the problem.

I experienced this issue when i first started upgrading users to windows 10. While i never fully solved the problem i did notice it only seemed to happen when alot of different GP tabs are open.
It also happened with other remoteapps i had deployed. If the users limited the amount of open windows everythong seemed normal.Server 2012.
Windows 10No mapped drives.

It’s almost beginning to sound as if it is a memory limitation. GP is a memory hog. You might check on your RD host to see if you can up the memory allocated to each RD session and see if that helps.

I have also seen issues with particular displays. I would note which users have the issue and what monitors they all have. If it is the same monitor model number, that is likely the issue. That would point to a need for a new driver.——————————

Hi David,
I’ve been using published GP app since serveral years (first on Citrix and then on Windows TS). Our current TS/RDP server is a Win2012 box (since 2 years now) and 99% of my users are running the published GP apps from a windows 7 client PC.. no issues, other than some tricky monitor resolution issues (but that’s a different story).
I’ve recently traded my laptop for a new Win10 machine and installed GP 2013R2 locally and use the remote publsihed app as well.. no issues at all and no strange flickering of the icon.
I also run my test GP2016R2 client thru another RDP system from my win10 machine and it behaves not differently than 2013R2..——————————

Check your event viewer log, see if you have errors with explorer.exe. It’s an issue with explorer.exe while using the windows 10 RDP client. We had a very similar issue with RemoteApp with GP and any user on windows 10. They would be working, and then GP would stop responding.. give it maybe a few seconds, or maybe 2-3 minutes, then it “flashes”, taskbar kinda hides and comes back, and then you can move around again. If you were really unlucky, it does this almost non-stop.We had actually set up the win 7 rdp.exe and DLL’s on windows 10 machines, and that fixed the problem, but would have issues every 2-3 weeks when 1 of the files was updated.
We worked through Microsoft support (GP support, then RDS, then a Senior Escalation Engineer that immediately saw the problem). Easiest fix is to apply either the November 2015 update (version 1511) or what’s called the Anniversary Update (August 2, 2016), version 1607. Both of these updates include the fix to explorer.exe.
