Currently we use project timesheet feature from Business Portal, and Project Accounting and HR & Payroll modules from GP 2010. During the testing of project timesheet module inside GP 2016 R2, we found that the timesheet input interfaces are not very intuitive for staff. So we’re looking for project timesheet modules from the 3rd party vendors that is integrated with GP 2016 R2. Any comment, suggestion or recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

The two big players are Key2Act (WennSoft Job Cost) and Olympic.  But that does require you to switch from using GP project accounting to using their modules.

Rob, you’re right. At this moment, we don’t want to replace PA in GP yet.

      Hi Jianhong,
This is one of the major reason that kept us from upgrading last year to 2015R2… we’re a heavy user of Business Portal (BP) for Timesheets (TS) and Employee Expense (EE) reports..
The lack of a decent replacement for that tool in GP 2016 has us made hold off the upgrade until Microsoft comes up with a better interface (read: more clean and less confusing) and something that work reliably (which is not the case for the web client yet).
As Rob pointed out, if you want to move further on GP 2016, you’ll have to invest in 3rd-party products.. or develop your own interface

Here is another option, Journyx.  I haven’t worked with them before, but what I can tell it integrates directly with GP’s project system so you can enter time and expenses in Journyx and it will integrate back to GP

We have been using Journyx for the last year and LOVE them and their product.  It’s easy to install and use and easy to configure to your specific needs.  It’s also available on any web browser so users no longer have an excuse not to enter their timesheets.

Feel free to reach out to me directly if you want to talk more.  Sandra.dodge@iridium.com

      Jianhong,

We recommend and deploy ReQlogic for Project Time and Expense customers moving off PDK/Business Portal.  As you pointed out the offering/replacement from Microsoft lacks the ability for most customers to migrate to it.  I met with an existing customer in late 2015/early 2016 that had over 1000 BP Timesheet users and they had been struggling with the 2015 replacement it just was slow and inconsistent in handling the volume and approval process.

ReQlogic is reasonably priced.  It actually runs on premise and points directly to your GP data so it doesn’t duplicate Projects, Cost Categories, GL Accounts, Items, etc.  It is well built and offers lots of flexibility if you need to configure it to meet your business requirements.  We just moved a customer that had about 350 active employee’s using BP/PDK to ReQlogic and the process/experience for the users was great, they like it much better than PDK/BP.  In addition to Time and Expense, ReQlogic also offers Requisitions, Online Receiving (receive against a PO), Vendor Bidding (RFQ), Invoice Match with full integration to GP.  With respect to Project Accounting in GP it also can view the PA Budgets and you can use those in your Routing of documents.

An alternative to ReQlogic would be Paramount Workplace.

The one thing I like about ReQlogic over Paramount and/or the others in the space is that you purchase the ReQlogic Users and a Site License (gets you all the RL modules) and then simply turn on/off features for the individual users.

To clarify, are you looking for a new project tracking system or merely a new timesheet entry system that will integrate with Project Accounting & GP?

The replies so far are geared towards the former but I suspect you’re talking about the latter?

I would look at some ISV vendors like Greenshades perhaps or Joe Software.  I have clients that use Joe Software for time entry and it posts to project accounting/GP (or Wennsoft/GP if the case permits). I don’t know if Joe’s Penny product *only* works with Canadian Payroll users or if it works with anything. Typically my clients are using both Project and Cdn Payroll so it posts data to both.

Greenshades might have a timesheet application that posts to Project & US Payroll?

      Just a thought…

      Jen

Thanks, Jen. We use Project Accounting and HR & Payroll modules inside GP. So we’re looking for a new timesheet entry system that will integrate with Project Accounting & GP. We will contact Joe’s software for more info.

      Jianhong,

I recently made that leap from GP 2010 to 2015 R2. We are heavy users of the project module including using Timesheet and Expense company wide. We did have some challenges with the move to the new system but overall it was successful. So far I have not found anything that would be worth upgrading too. Having that integration into GP is a nice plus and the workflow is a great feature. I suggest using SSRS for employees/supervisors to reference older and newer Time/Expense Documents, so users don’t need to login.

A major issue is that you cannot purchase additional licenses for PDK if you continue to use GP 2010 (there is a workaround if anyone is interested)

      Workforce Ready Time Keeping
With disparate systems and inefficient time and attendance, scheduling, and data collection processes, many organizations experience issues that can slow growth and frustrate employees. Integrating and automating these processes can boost employee productivity and engagement while providing real-time insight into labor data to help control costs and reduce compliance risk.
