Does anyone have experience with customizing the data guarding on GP/Cinch input data fields?  Specifically, if there are any user facilities for customizing data fields without development that would be great.  Thanks!

      Hi Karl

Exactly what do you want to do with these fields?

You can use Field Level Security, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) or GP Power Tools scripting if you want to customise behaviour of fields without needing an external development tools.

We would like to add stronger data typing to the input fields.  For example, to limit a number to a range, or non-zero, etc.  Nothing very fancy but the current data typing for fields is general, e.g. number w/ 2 decimal places.  Just looking for a little domain specific constraints to put in there without having to go to programming.

See under Tools/Customize there are a number of options I don’t have priv’s for including GP Power Tools.  Looks promising.

      Hi Karl

If you have GP Power Tools installed, Go to Help >> About Dynamics GP, then Additional >> About GP Power Tools and click on the lower case i icon to check the individual modules.

Is Developer Tools – Scripting enabled?

If so, with the appropriate access you can add triggers to perform any validation you like.

There will have to be some coding as there is no way to achieve what you are looking for without coding in a development tool.

However, using GPPT or VBA allows you to make the changes without needing an external development environment.  Note VBA is not web client compatible.
