I’ve had a user ask the question “Is there any way to assign a vendor to an item class?”  Does anyone know of any way within GP2013 to do this?  Apparently, an ex-employee could do this, but I can’t figure out a way.

      Thanks.

My apologies for all the edits,

Do you want to assign an item to a Vendor?  If so:

Go to Cards>Inventory>Item and call up the item ID that needs to be assigned.
Under Go To on the top of the Item Maintenance window choose Vendors which will open the Vendor Item Maintenance window
Call up the Vendor ID that you would like to assign the item to, then Save

      Hope this helps.

Thank you, but, no, my user wants to assign the vendor to the entire item class.

      Hi Glenda,

You can identify the items and make the changes through a Navigation List

Choose Inventory on the Navigation Pane
      Choose the Items report
When it populates click on the plus sign at Add Filter then choose:
Where>Class ID>Is>[type in the name of the item class]
      Click on the arrow

When the list populates see first if you can click on the top box to mark all records.  If you get a message that states you have selected too many records you will have to make the changes one record at a time.  But at least you will have a list to go by that has all of the items for that Class ID.

Once the records, or record if you have to do this one at a time, is checked, in Modify in the upper right corner click on Edit.
This will pull up the Item Maintenance window
Click on Go to>Vendors to open the Item Vendors Maintenance window
Choose the Vendor ID to assign the item to and Save
Close the Item Vendors Maintenance window
      Save the Item

I would be happy to help with this if you aren’t familiar with the Navigation lists.  I wanted to add screen prints but I’m having a problem with this site and pasting that freezes my browser window.

      Hi Glenda,

I hope that Shari’s comments were able to help.

I wanted to check to see if you meant the Vendor Class ID instead of the Item Class ID.  This can be found on the Vendor Maintenance Card and is assigned to each vendor individually.

      Home/Purchasing/Purchasing/Cards/Vendor

      Good luck!

      Hey Glenda,
If I’m understanding right and you want to assign one vendor to all items in a specific class, I’d probably vote for a macro.  Pull up the Item Vendors Maintenance window, change the drop down at the bottom to sort by Item Class and then record a macro to click the Assigned button, paste in the vendor id, click the next button at the bottom and click yes to save.

Either that or use Int Mgr or SmartConnect to update the items.  I’m pretty sure both will let you import Item Vendors.
      🙂
