Hello Everyone and I hope you are having a Happy March!
I have a request from our Finance department for the ability to approve GP batches in Workflow from the Finance managers cell phone.
We would appreciate any suggestions and advice on if this is possible and available.

Unfortunately, not really, especially if you’re using an iPhone or Android device. Workflow approval requires IE 9.0 and above and web services to be running so the device would need to be able to communicate.Workflow 3.0 is coming, I think in the next version. Hopefully, this functionality will exist.
In the meantime, there is U-LINC from Integrity Data. It apparently does offer approvals on mobile devices.

The only way this would work is either you would have to put a server outside of your network’s DMZ so it is accessible from the internet. The user would have to enter their network user name and password. All of this is untested, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be do-able, you can poke holes in the firewall, but there are obviously inherit security risks. If your IT department doesn’t have an in house security expert, you would definitely want to have a consultant from an IT security firm do something like this for you.
Charles,
I think with GP 2016 workflow works with any browser now, but I have not tested workflow approval via a moble device. I don’t think it uses the web client to approve anyway, it just goes out to the web services and it renders a window for them to enter a comment and approve.
So, the 3 unanswered questions here that someone would need to test:
#1 If you are not logged into your company’s network, will the web services provide a login screen for you to enter your standard domain credentials to authenticate, or will it just fail?#2 Are mobile devices supported, if so what browsers will work?
#3 Is it possible to prevent all access to your systems financial data while making web services available outside the DMZ? What ports have to be open?

I have seen a third party product demonstrated that could achieve this.
Have a chat with Thomas Garcia from Icon, he demonstrated a solution at the GPUG Summit 2015 session that Mariano and I hosted.

From an accounting perspective,
is such a thing advisable?Should they be in a rush to approve batches?
Or should they put a minimum of thought and effort into the process?——————————
