It looks like the form has changed this year and when I go to print the form the 1096-OID box is checked instead of 1099-MISC.  Does any one know how to correct this?  Thanks.

      Hi,
First, make sure you have applied the year-end update. If you have, take a look at your Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports. What I have seen is that a change was made last year to the 1096 and that modified report is still selected. Changed the selection so that the original Form 1096 is being printed. GP has, in fact, changed the report definition so that the correct box is checked. What hasn’t been addressed is the new box that was added to item 7. The check box that’s missing from the layout says: “Form 1099-MISC with NEC in box 7, check”. In my world, all of my clients need to check that box. We just decided to manually check it if paper filing was being done.
      Kind regards,
      Leslie

Thank you Leslie.  I am a brand new user to Great Plains.  How do you run an update?

      Wow,
I am so surprised by all of the problems. In 100% of the cases I have personally dealt with that involved the 1096 where the 1099OID box was checked has been because the new version of the report was not being used. The update is an installation file you need to download from Customer/PartnerSource and install on each workstation. It is a code update so you will need to update your company tables and the Forms/Reports dictionaries.
What I have done in years where I couldn’t get the checkboxes to line up was just to make them invisible and check the box manually.
      Kind regards,
      Leslie

We recently performed the GP update and it corrected the problem.  I guess it is no surprise that the government would make such a subtle change that requires software application updates and not provide a lot of announcement coverage on the topic!

      Hi Leslie;
Just curious – how do you make the “X” invisible?
      Thanks!

Just tried printing my 1096 and am seeing the same thing. I’m not using a modified version of the 1096 report, so the mystery continues…..

      Hi all,
If you install the year-end tax update to Dynamics GP it fixes the 1096 report. You’ll need to make sure you are not printing a report you previously modified because you won’t see the changes. I’ve been working on closings nonstop since December and this is the answer for sure. The year-end tax update is not the 2017 tax tables, updating the tax tables is a different procedure.
      Kind regards,
      Leslie

We were able to generate our 1099’s and get the X’s in the right place, but we ran into another issue.

Our Accountant was prevented from printing Form 1096 (“not privileged to print this report”).  But she WAS able to print the 1099’s.

She has User Security to the Task Name “Print 1099’s” (ADMIN_PURCH_007).  But yet she was prevented from printing the 1096.  So I’m searching for the Security Task that controls printing Form 1096.

I’m hoping one of you can enlighten me what the Task ID or Task Name is that controls Printing Form 1096.

      Thanks,

      Hi,
No mystery here. In 100% of the cases I’ve dealt with regarding these ‘errors’ with the checkbox, either the year-end update hasn’t been installed or a modified report that is a left over from a prior year is being used.
      Kind regards,
      leslie

I ran into this also.  I just saved it as a pdf and played around with the X until it was in the correct position… probably not very efficient but it worked 🙂

Good topic Janet. It prompted me to look at our process to make sure the new format would print properly. I just found out today that we have had problems with aligning the 1096 for years. Since no one knew how to change reports in Report Writer (we all know how much fun that is to work with) they were just saving it into Word so they could manipulate where the margins and the ‘x’ falls. 😎  Looks like something to put on my to do list before 2017 year end. 8->
